I have been using air-dry clay for the past three years and I’ve started making the air-dry clay hands about two years ago. When I was finishing my bachelor degree, I used to have a 101 ceramics course and my teacher was amazing, always encouraging me and treating me like one of her original students, who were studying ceramics as a bachelor or masters degree. After finishing my bachelors I didn’t have a place to play with clay anymore, since I didn’t have a kiln, until I found air-dry clay or paper clay. After trying different brands, colours, consistencies, I found the one that worked the best for me and feels like real clay. Since then, I’ve done lots and lots of pins and many hands. Each hand is approximately 20 cm tall. I sculpt them by hand, dry them, which takes around 2 to 3 days or in the oven. After that I sand them with two kinds of sandpapers, paint them with acrylic paint, Indian ink, acrylic markers and finish them with acrylic varnish. Et voilá!
I decided to make a page with most of the designs I have done through these two years. That way I have them all gathered in one place and if you like to have one, you can choose from these or use them as an inspiration.
