This is a project in which I am using linocut as a tool to show the amazing architecture in Sofia, even though a big part of it is decaying and I'm trying to preserve it as it is, with its ACs, cracks and different painting decisions.

According to the dictionery , the therm "Architectonics" can be defined as having an organized and unified structure that suggests an architectural design. In an absolute contrast of the definition, the composit of the original elements of the buildings with the unwarrantedly added by the inhabitants like air-conditioners, inconsistent window frames and facades left to decay, create a deceptive perception. Exactly this paradoxical feeling for harmony is the core of Ana's desire to document the present appearance of the architecture in Sofia, using linocut as her means of expression, which gives the name of the presented archive - "LINOARCHITECTONIKA". This sequence of prints aims to raise awareness about the increasingly noticeable absece of architectonics in our urban habitat and to provoke the willpower for harmonised evolution in our environment.

It started with me taking a part in an open call for the Rivers of Sofia Festival in 2021. I was approved and decided to make linocut prints of some of the area’s architecture, since the festival took part at Lavov most. The finished works were displayed under the bridge for the days of the festival and since then i’ve decided to make this an ongoing project of the architecture in Sofia. I made prints of houses which had its own character and they have an added unique dimples by their new owners or the small business owner who turned them into their homes. They are the ares biggest chance for survival and for the architecture to be seen and preserved and not demolished and turned into flats and shopping centres.

The prints were made using one, two or three colours showing the original paint/graffiti of the houses on Fabriano Unica Creme 250 gms paper in 35x50 cm.

The project resembles my love for Sofia’s architecture and small labyrinth-like streets, which is planted there mostly by my mother in my childhood memories and continued on with my partner, as it turned into our passion. Now we are showing it to our son.

In March 2023 was my first solo exhibition showing my archive with its buildings which I’ve made so far. It consisted of all the prints , the linoleums I carved, photos of my husband holding the prints in front of the original buildings and postcards of these photos, made specifically for the event, as well as stickers and informational materials.

This exhibition was realised thanks to Nadejda Georgia from Sito Studio and the financial support of National Culture Fund, as part of the “Creative Scholarship” program.
